Joining SPIDER Elementary

Interested in SPIDER?

Contact Sheena Careless, Teacher Coordinator, to discuss the program at scareless@sd46.bc.ca. Note that there may be a wait list.

If you are interested in possibly joining SPIDER, here’s a checklist of steps for registration in the program:

1. Look around the SPIDER Elementary site to get a general sense of the program. In particular, check out:

About SPIDER Elementary to get the basics of what we are all about.

– SPIDER Elementary Minimum Requirements to know what would be required of your family.

– SPIDER Elementary Learning Plans to see what goes into creating an annual plan for your child(ren)’s learning.

– SPIDER Elementary Learning Funds to understand how funds can be used to support their learning.

Learning in Community Days to get a sense of what we do when we meet up!

2. Let your current school know you’re considering moving to SPIDER.

3. Make contact with and then meet with a SPIDER Teacher Consultant (Sheena Careless, scareless@sd46.bc.ca) or SPIDER Principal (Duncan Knight, dknight@sd46.bc.ca) to ask more questions and figure out if SPIDER is a good fit for your family.

4. Connect with a Parent Mentor (currently Alexis Bach: lexiiboxx@hotmail.com) to have any remaining questions answered.

5. If possible, come to a day or two at Roberts Creek Community Elementary (Tuesday) and/or Camp Byng (Thursday), or both, as determined by the parent and teacher/principal.

6. If after going through all these steps you decide to register with SPIDER Elementary:

From within School District 46: Fill out the online Cross Boundary Transfer form from your current school. This will be sent to your   outgoing principal to sign and then sent to our principal for signing. Once that’s approved we can follow up with you.

From out of District: Register with what would be your catchment school, then complete a Cross Boundary Transfer to SPIDER. Once that’s approved we can follow up with you.

7. Fill out any other required paperwork, and submit it to our Administrative Assistant.

8. Connect with your Teacher Consultant for an orientation including supervision and participation requirements.

Note – Students not registered in a SD46 school will not be able to participate in activities until registration is complete.
