Sheena Careless Teacher Co-ordinator Sheena has a long history with out-of-the-classroom learning. She has spent much of her teaching career working in outdoor, experiential education and also has experience with Waldorf Education, but has been working with School District 46 for the past 5 years. She has worked with SPIDER Elementary since 2015. She grew up on the Sunshine Coast and is so happy to now be sharing its beaches and forests with her own family. She is available Monday to Thursday to help you with anything SPIDER. scareless@sd46.bc.ca
Jane Mead Teacher Consultant Jane has taught out-of-the-classroom and in the classroom in a variety of educational settings. Her first career was with Outward Bound, an international educational organization in which she was immersed in experiential teaching in the wilderness setting. After formally obtaining her B.Ed. with a specialty in ‘Outdoor and Experiential Learning’, she worked at two different Initiative Waldorf schools teaching Kindergarten and grade one. Since she has been with SD46 she has been a Teacher Consultant and Inclusion Support Teacher with Spider, taught in a traditional classroom (Grade 1/2) and with the NEST program (Grades 2-5) both outside of the classroom and in. She is delighted to be back with Spider and is available Mondays to Thursdays. jmead@sd46.bc.ca
Haylee Varty-MacDonald Teacher Consultant Haylee is excited to be joining the SPIDER team on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After spending the past three years teaching with the Vancouver School Board, she has recently moved back to the Sunshine Coast. She is honoured to have the opportunity to live in Gibsons and has been enjoying the beaches and forests, meeting lots of dogs, and spending more time with family. Her teaching career and learning so far has focused on collaborative school library spaces as well as traditional classroom communities.
